Hi Everybody,

Welcome to the 2009 soccer season!  Your player has been drafted onto our team.

My name is Carl Mosher and I will be coaching the Girls U-14, (Team #4) this season. I have been coaching in this Region for 12 years and have 2 of my children playing in the U-14 division this year; my daughter, Brianna and my son, Colton.

Our first practice and Team/Parent meeting will be this Thursday 8/20/09, 5:00 to 6:00 PM at El Retiro Park. We will have a 45 min. practice (get acquainted) and then have a short parents meeting afterwards (5:45).  Our regular season practices will be at Parras Middle school, however, that field will not become available to us until the end of the month.

Our team has a website at TheSoccerKids.com. Choose the `Fall 2009 Season' (last menu item on the left). All the information regarding our team; roster, practices, game schedule, contact information, pictures, etc. will be located at our website. If you are new to this site, you should have received an invitation to join with your preliminary Username and Password. The username/password are required to view the protected areas of the site. When you first log in with your username and password, you will be required to fill out some information to gain access. (Note: If you enter a birth date of a person younger than 13 years of age, you will be required to obtain adult permission (via email) prior to logging in. The easier solution is to use a birth date which yields an age of  13 or older). If you are already a member, but have forgotten your log-in information, I can have it resent to you. If you have any questions prior to our meeting, please give me a call (310-833-6674) or email me at coach@thesoccerkids.com.

I have prepared a preliminary agenda below for our meeting and also a volunteer sign-up sheet.

We will be able to expedite our meeting if we resolve our volunteering needs prior to this meeting. To help in that regard, I have included a Volunteer Sign-up Sheet below.  Please fill in the form and submit your request. I will update this list as I receive your responses. If you have already indicated your volunteer request on your player registration form, I have included your name for that position. If I need to change something, just let me know.

The Region has a Referee Program which requires each team to provide referees (AR's or Center Referees) to games each week. Each team is required to accumulate 30 referee points to be eligible for the Beach Cup Tournament at the end of the season.  My goal is to get a certified AR or Center Referee representatives from each family. This will help share the responsibility for each week of play. If you are not already a certified referee, there are a couple Basic Referee classes available this month and next month. These classes will qualify you to referee U-10 games as either a Center or Assistant referee. The only prerequisite is to be 12 years of age or older and a desire to learn about the game. Here's the info for the next 2 classes:
  • Saturday, August 22nd, 9am – 5pm at the Alta Vista Community Center (near the tennis courts at Alta Vista Park). Lunch will be provided.
  • Tuesday and Thursday, September 8th and 10th, tentative time 7pm – 10pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 214 Avenue I, Redondo Beach. You must attend both evenings to become certified.
